THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
SINGLEMODE & MULTIMODE

• Singlemode fibers have a smaller core than multimode fibers 
and are suitable for long-distance installations (OS2)

• Multimode fibers have a larger core and are recommended for 
fiber optic runs of less than 400 m (OM3 / OM4 / OM5)

• Singlemode only works with singlemode and multimode 
works only with multimode
